Thai Human Trafficking |
The discoveries have embarrassed Thailand, which is already under pressure from the United States and the European Union to crack down on human trafficking both on land and in its fishing fleets. Thai Police chief Gen. Somyot Poompanmoung has moved quickly, arresting the mayor of the district town and relieving 50 police officers of their duties. "If you are...neglecting, or involved with, or supporting or benefiting from human-trafficking networks, your heads will roll," Somyot said.
Reports out in July confirm as many as 100 government officials indicted who once oversaw human trafficking issues in the south. State prosecutors have arrested 72 official suspects and were waiting to proceed with 32 others who remained at large that oversaw the south region.
theguardian put out a good report on this.

A comment from Globe Backyard TV:
This goes out to the thousands of migrants and refugees displaced from war, which is a crime and many are used and sold in human trade. Thailand local politicians, government officials, police, and a senior-ranking army officer who once oversaw human trafficking issues in the south where now more than 50 people in government were arrested in a month for human trafficking. The number of theses officials has grown to 100, once in prison, justice will be served with an expansion of their bunny hole. I hope many migrants get this news, safe journey mate.
